 about

Blake Clay Ceramics is handcrafted by Rhianna Blake on Gadigal and Wangal land in Leichhardt, Sydney.

Each piece is thoughtfully formed in stoneware, terracotta, or porcelain, balancing refined function with an elegant tactile quality. Through both wheel-thrown and hand-built techniques, Rhianna creates contemporary ceramics that feel sculptural, considered, and quietly distinctive. Each piece is unique, intended not only to be used, but to be lived with and held.

Her practice balances precision and spontaneity, with glazes developed and tested to bring subtle colour and finish to the work.

Rhianna holds a Bachelor of Art Education from the University of New South Wales, College of Fine Arts, with a fine arts major in Sculpture, Performance, and Installation, along with minors in Photography and Ceramics. The essence of ceramics runs deep for Rhianna, with invaluable knowledge passed down from her uncle and mother, both ceramic artists.

As well as creating ceramics in her home studio in Leichhardt, NSW, Rhianna is an experienced Visual Arts educator who teaches a range of art mediums, including ceramics, to high school students in Sydney’s Inner West. Her past students have achieved outstanding success in HSC Visual Arts, with several selected for the prestigious annual ARTEXPRESS exhibition, where their HSC Bodies of Work are showcased in galleries across the state.

"I enjoy the process of making and using the earthy elements to make something substantial. For me, its not about production, its about slowing down and creating simple and refined forms that can be appreciated and used in everyday life."

Blake Clay pieces are handmade and as such every piece is unique and from a very limited series. All pieces will always look lovely together but they will not be identical.

That is the beauty of handmade ceramics.

Rhianna invites you to watch the video below to show you some of the processes involved to make all Blake Clay ceramics from start to finish from her home studio in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt, Sydney Australia.
